#100 & #101~Milestones

Milestones are meant to be celebrated!

This week was cause for a couple of milestone celebrations.

The first, I hit my 100th pool in the desert, at the Palm Springs Swim Center! It’s spacious outdoor aquatic complex with a 50 meter x 25 yard pool set at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains. It was the perfect respite after a long flight from Boston. It was kinda refreshing that I was one of the younger swimmers at the pool. That doesn’t happen often!

It’s been just over five years that I started this crazy blog in 2013 to celebrate my 50th birthday. The goal was to swim in 50 different pools in the calendar year. With a lot of planning and effort I achieved that goal. In hindsight I more fully appreciate that original goal as it’s taken me 5 years to get the next 50 pools to equal 100. This blog project has been more fun than I would have ever imagined and I can’t wait to get to 200-in less than 5 years.

The more important milestone to celebrate and the reason for this short escapade to the Southern California desert was my Mom’s/Grams 80th Birthday!!!

After months of deception and white lies about our collective plans for that weekend the family surprised her with a Mexican themed fiesta. We had a big house with a pool where we laughed and enjoyed hanging around with each other for few days. We celebrated the first 80 years of a selfless, wonderful woman a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. A great time was had by all!!! Sadly Shannon, Sean and Courtney couldn’t make the trip.

When you are in a nice and sunny climate one must take the time to enjoy new outdoor swimming venues. I did that by traveling a few miles down the road to the Palm Desert Aquatic Center for #101. Again another 50 meter by 25 yard outdoor pool. Again, I was on the younger side of the age spectrum Ana faster than my lane mates. I can get use to this!

Post Palm Spring its was back up to Los Angeles for a quick couple days of business. Between meetings I was able to get a short swim in at pool #44 the Santa Monica Swim Center. The last time I swam there was 10/24/2013. I went in the afternoon. It was a bit crowded and I didn’t swim far but I desperately need the exercise.

Looking forward to outdoor swimming and the next trip to Southern California and more importantly to celebrating more milestones with family and friends.
