“In my mind I’m going to Carolina…” well it wasn’t in my mind or just humming James Taylor music I was actually going to North Carolina. The first pool of the year brought me to Charlotte and the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center. It is the home of SwimMac one of the training teams of choice for Olympians and Olympic hopefuls.
The pool went through a renovation in 2016. It’s a 50 meter by 25 yard pool with high ceilings and spectator galleries on both sides of the pool. Clearly, it’s set up for big meet competition.
It was actually a rest day for me and I wasn’t suppose to swim. How could I not help myself? When I rolled in at 5:30am (ugh) feeling pretty beat and saw it set up long course another James Taylor song came to mind Steamroller!
I swam a lazy 2000 meters with no real set workout. That’s was all I needed. I do like long course as I think my stroke lengthens out and I have better symmetry but sometimes you have to work into it.
It was a great start to the new year. Looking forward to some new pools and aquatic adventure in the new year.
